Europe is filled with countries and cities that celebrate a wide range of traditions that range from religious to completely random such as beer festivals. The great thing about these events is that they are all celebrated in style that means that all who embrace them, come away with great memories.
We have put together a list of some of the best festivals and events in Europe and its cities in March 2019.
Ivrea Carnival – Battle of the Oranges – Ivrea, Italy
Nearest City – Turin
During March, The Ivrea Carnival takes place in the Piedmont district of Turin. The is an event which is full of colour. If food throwing is your thing and you love Italy then the Battle of the Oranges is a great way to experience tradition and some fun.
This is food fighting at its very best. The residents of Ivrea come together, 3000 in total, to create two teams where they throw 400 tons of oranges at each other. It is a team event but there is often fruit flying everywhere and often spectators can get involved. However, this is not just about the fruit throwing because there are parades, markets and great food to enjoy.
The festival takes place between March 2nd and 5th.
Starkbierzeit – Munich, Germany
The Germans have a real fondness for beer. The Strong Beer Festival is a clear indication that this is very true. This is an event that dates back 300 years and it is a great opportunity for people to come together to celebrate. Despite it being in March, it does last for up to 4 weeks.
Dates run from 15th of March to the 6th of April.
Falles de Valencia – Valencia, Spain
This carnival is filled with explosive excitement. Over the course of five days, people party, have parades and pageants. Then fireworks set off throughout the streets of Valencia before turning all the lights off in the city on the last night. During the finale of this event, caricatures made from papier-mache are set on fire. These are stuffed with fireworks and produce a great display for all to enjoy.

Taste of Florence Food Festival – Florence, Italy
Florence is a beautiful city with amazing art and architecture, but it is also known to be one of the food hubs of the world. This event is all about getting to the heart of the culture of food and the city. At the festival you can find over 300 stands serving food from across the country. If you want a one-stop lesson in all thing’s Italian food, then this is the event for you.

St Patrick’s Day – Dublin, Ireland
The Irish know how to have a good time and they certainly do it well on St Patrick’s Day. Despite this being a day of celebration, it turns into a festival and over the five days, the celebrations never stop. Just pop into a local bar to find out what it is all about!
St Patrick’s day itself is on the 17th March.
